Well the name speaks for its heritage, Wharfedale is one of the most historic, and important brands in the history of hi-fi. With 87 years of history, Gilbert Briggs was the inventor and entrepreneur and it all began in the cellar of his home in IIkley, west Yorkshire. Gilberts wife was the production department, and back in the early days she would spend many late nights hand winding and soldering voice coils for Wharfedale loudspeakers. She must have done an excellent job, as the early loudspeaker drivers were travelling fast.
